UK Government Visits Hospitalar 2023 to Strengthen UK-Latin America Healthcare Partnerships

The UK’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has announced its participation at Hospitalar 2023, the largest trade show on healthcare in Latin America.

The mission marks a significant step towards raising awareness of the UK’s offer in Healthcare & Life Sciences, positioning the nation as a global hub for innovative solutions and a strategic partner for Brazil and Latin America.

Brazil presents the largest healthcare market in Latin America, and seventh largest in the world, and spends 9.1% of its GDP on healthcare.

Home to the second largest pharmaceutical market worldwide and the leading medical device market in Latin America, it marks one of Healthcare UK’s priority markets with great potential for the NHS and healthcare organisations in the UK.

The UK is globally reputed for its digital transformation model and for hosting one of the most developed digital ecosystems in the world and science, technology and innovation have long played an important role in the relations between Brazil and the UK.

Throughout the four days, the UK event programme at Hospitalar 2023 will aim to highlight the importance of Brazil and Latin America as a top destination for UK exports, while showcasing the UK innovators and organisations ready to offer expertise, collaborations and innovative approaches to healthcare challenges.

Natalie Bain, Head of Healthcare UK at Department for Business and Trade, said

“As in most countries globally, demographic changes are powerfully shaping the demand for digital healthcare solutions in the Brazilian market.

With an ageing population and an escalating prevalence of non-communicable diseases, it has become crucial to proactively identify smarter investments that can effectively address Brazil’s ever-growing healthcare needs.”

“The UK, globally renowned as a hub for pioneering solutions, has maintained a long-standing strategic partnership with Brazil.

“We are excited to participate in Hospitalar 2023, where we aim to strengthen regional relationships and proudly showcase the UK’s exceptional capabilities.”

This year the event will kick off a new initiative called “UK-Brazil Innovation in Hospitals Forum”, that aims to exchange best practices and strengthen the relationship with Hospitals in Brazil, mapping their needs and fostering business opportunities between both countries.

The event will also build upon the existing partnership between the UK Government in Brazil and the Institute Health Coalition (ICOS).

Together, they will jointly organise the “International Forum ICOS 2023.” Distinguished UK speakers will feature in all of the forum’s panels, covering topics such as “leveraging innovation for sustainable healthcare” and “successful digital strategies in primary care in Brazil and the UK.”

The UK delegation will feature NHS organisations and leading digital health, medtech and life sciences innovators who are eager to connect and share their expertise.

The industry leaders will delve into critical topics including digital health, telehealth, primary care, mental health, artificial intelligence (AI), information security, and sustainability.

Natalie added

“A key focus for us is to highlight how UK innovation can help optimise system efficiency and resilience and help tackle some the world’s biggest healthcare challenges and bring healthcare closer to the patient.”

“By embracing intelligent solutions, we can guarantee the delivery of efficient and effective health services to the population, further cementing the UK’s position as a trusted partner.”

UK exhibitors at Hospitalar include: The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Royal College of General Practitioners, Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, Modality Partnership, Health Care First, LumiraDX, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin NHS Trust, Amparo Prosthetics, Algeos, and Inavya.

At Hospitalar 2023, the Healthcare UK Stand will be located in Stand D. 220.
