Ease Health launches with US$41m in behavioural health software funding

Ease Health has launched with US$41m in early-stage funding to expand adoption of its behavioural health software platform among large providers treating mental health and substance use conditions.

The New York-based startup has developed a platform that combines admissions processing, patient management and billing tools for behavioural health providers.

Many providers rely on two separate systems to manage admissions and patient data, with billing often handled through a standalone application.

That fragmentation can create inefficiencies, with staff sometimes manually syncing data between systems, increasing the risk of errors.

Ease says its platform brings those functions together.

Co-founder and chief executive officer Zach Cohen said: “We built Ease to be the operating system for behavioural health: one patient record, one workflow, and one source of truth, with AI doing the work that used to require entire teams.”

During admissions, the software sends required forms to patients and analyses submitted information to determine eligibility.

It also uses artificial intelligence to identify returning patients, removing the need for administrators to check manually.

Information collected during admissions is synced to a built-in customer relationship management system. The platform also creates an electronic health record, or EHR, which is a digital version of a patient’s medical file used to store clinical information such as medical notes.

The company provides an AI tool that automates some of the work involved in adding new notes to an EHR. Ease says the feature can reduce the time required for the task by up to 50 per cent.

For clinic administrators, the platform includes a scheduling tool that allows work to be assigned to healthcare professionals and helps track how well each activity is performed. Dashboards powered by Microsoft’s Power BI business intelligence software can also be used to monitor clinic performance metrics.

Ease also offers a patient portal designed to simplify sharing information with patients.

The Series A round was led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. The company plans to use the funding to hire additional engineers and develop new artificial intelligence features.

The funding comes a few months after Heidi Health Trading Pty, another startup working to automate administrative tasks for healthcare providers, raised US$65m.

Earlier, Abridge Inc. closed a US$300m round led by Andreessen Horowitz to develop its AI platform for automating medical notes and organising clinical data.
