Empaths are the healers of the world, sent to our planet to bring peace, comfort and guidance to all those in times of need. They understand the feelings of those around them at a level that most of us can’t even begin to imagine, genuinely connecting with everyone that they meet. This connection allows them to truly comprehend that which they are struggling with, climbing directly into the hold with those who need them most, working alongside them to help them climb out to freedom.

While the concept appears to be easy enough to understand, an empath is anything but a ‘simple’ individual. Their complex emotions and incredible gift can make them difficult to understand at times, baffling their friends and family. 1. You Are Highly Sensitive

You don’t like to see pain, suffering and violence at all, not even in the movies or on television. If you are watching television and things start to get a little too intense, you will not hesitate to change the channel in search of something happy and upbeat. In person, you not only acknowledge and understand the pain of those that are around you, but you actually FEEL their pain, sometimes even experiencing physical symptoms from what they are currently going through.

2. You Are Easily Drained by the People Around You

You may identify as an introvert or an extrovert, but one thing is true. Anytime you are in a group situation it will leave you feeling exhausted and drainedrather quickly. While you can consciously choose to connect with others, empaths also connect on a subconscious level, a natural connection. While in large groups, that’s a lot of feelings and emotions draining a single person. Keep this in mind and allow yourself the downtime that you need to recuperate.

3. You Feel Drawn to the Natural Environment

When you are outdoors among the plants and animals in the natural world you feel the most relaxed, comfortable and at home. There is something incredibly calming about being outdoors, and you often find yourself drawn to it like a moth to a flame. You also feel a strong connection with plants and animals, one that can be seen in the way that animals readily approach you, trusting you instantly. For this reason, you find it incredibly difficult when a tree is cut down, or an animal is suffering.

4. You Are A Master at Spotting Liars

If someone thinks that they are going to pull the wool over your eyes, they can think again. Due to the fact that you feel the energy and feelings of the people that you encounter, you can sense when someone isn’t being honest with you. Due to the fact that you don’t like upsetting anyone (ever), you will likely put on a brave face and act as though everything is ok, but deep down you know the truth and you aren’t about to let anyone fool you.

5. You Take on the Energy of Others

The energy that you are feeling, either positive or negative, is highly influenced by the people that are around you. While feeling their emotions, you also take on their energy – an experience that can be incredibly powerful but can also be highly draining. For example, if you are currently trying to help a friend work through a time of distress, their negative, fearful and sad energy will influence the way that you are feeling.

6. You Enjoy Your Solitude

You understand the importance of some ‘me’ time in your life, setting time aside to spend on your own. Due to the fact that you take on the problems, struggles and negative energy of others all day, every day, you can become worn out and exhausted. Solitude provides you with the peace and calm to recharge your batteries and recover from the demands of your day. It’s not that you don’t like people, but simply understand the importance of your time away from them.

7. You Attract the Broken

The people that are most drawn to you and your energy aren’t the strong, independent and self-made individuals of the world. Your healing energy attracts the exact opposite, the broken people who need someone to help them in their times of need. This doesn’t just include your friends, but even complete strangers who may approach you on the street, feeling comforted by your presence. You were put on this planet for a reason, and others can sense that.

8. You Are A Skilled Emotional Healer

Once you have attracted the broken and hurt individuals in the world around you, then you can get to work doing what you do best – helping them to heal and move past the struggles in their lives. You are gifted in the area of healing, and there is nothing that makes you feel better than putting that gift to work. Unfortunately, not everyone is worth your time and effort. Learn to identify those who are going to grow, learn and heal, and those that are merely going to waste your time, draining you of your energy and finding themselves no further ahead then when you started. You need to protect yourself, and there is nothing wrong with walking away.

9. You Have an Incredibly Accurate Sense of Intuition

Not only do you have a strong sense of intuition, however just having a sense of intuition isn’t all that different or crazy. What makes yours different is how incredibly clear, on point and accurate it is. You don’t just get a vague idea that something may or may not be up, instead, your intuition is clear. Furthermore, the things that you sense almost always come true exactly as you predict that they will. Make sure to stop and listen!

10. You Sense the Energy of the Collective Consciousness

Not only do you feel the emotions and energy of an individual when you are in close proximity, you also sense the energy of the collective consciousness around you. For example, your work week may not run the standard Monday to Friday work week, maybe Wednesday and Thursday are your ‘weekend.’ However, when Wednesday comes around you can’t help but feel the ‘hump day’ energy that the collective consciousness is struggling with. Even on your day off, you feel like you are pushing to get past that challenging day.

11. You Often Overlook Your Own Problems

While you are always busy helping everyone else that you encounter, you often forget to put the necessary time and energy into your own problems in life. You carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, taking on everyone else’s problems on top of your own, but you need to ensure that you take the time to manage and solve your own problems. The say goes ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup,’ and you need to take it to heart.

12. Your Living Location is Important

Some people may choose where they live based on the school district, access to things like grocery stores or the distance they will need to commute to get to work. Your decision, however, is made based on the energy in a given area. Highly sensitive to the energies of others, and aware that your home needs to be your ‘safe space,’ you will seek out a home that makes you feel calm and relaxed. This may mean distancing yourself from others a bit, living out in the countryside, or it may be a specific area in your local town that just ‘feels’ right. Listen to your gut on this one.
