Senior-focused VR company MyndVR will be covered by New York insurer

VR digital therapeutic company MyndVR announced AgeWell New York’s insurance plans for Medicare and Medicaid patients would cover its senior-focused immersive offerings.

As of January 1 the insurer’s CareWell plan members will have access to MyndVR’s senior-focused VR digital therapeutic as an alternative therapy option.

MyndVR offers immersive travel experiences and entertainment, as well as occupational, physical and speech therapy-based experiences.

Seniors can also share their immersive endeavors live with loved ones remotely via MyndConnect, a communication platform the company launched in March 2022 with HTC Vive. The platform utilizes lightweight HTC’s VIVE Flow immersive glasses.

“Our members are enthusiastic about their ability to use MyndVR,” AgeWell New York lead senior benefits advisor Constance Harris-Fields said in a statement. “We see this program helping with isolation, anxiety and depression while stimulating memories, conversation and socialization, which is especially important in the wake of the pandemic.”

THE LARGER TREND

In October, MyndVR and European company Oroi announced a strategic partnership to expand the senior-focused VR company’s catalog of cognitive, physical and occupational therapies using Oroi content, which includes exercises and games simulating daily life situations like orienting oneself within a city, shopping in a market, getting dressed and cleaning a room.

The next month, MyndVR announced that 501c3 entity Bowlers to Veterans Link awarded a $250,000 grant to the National Association of State Veterans Homes, designated for VR equipment and content for veterans, and MyndVR would fulfill the donation and deploy its offerings in 50 state veteran homes in the U.S.

The company also launched a coalition dubbed DigitalTherapyNow.org to support passing the Access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics Act, which would provide Medicare coverage for prescription digital therapeutics.
