Gil Bashe and João Bocas to Participate in a Webinar on AI and the Future of Healthcare – Digital Health Technology News

As artificial intelligence has taken the world of healthcare by storm, medical professionals across the globe raise serious concerns about the reliability and potential of this remarkable technology. To address these concerns, Andersen will host an online webinar titled ‘Healthcare 2024: AI, Generative AI, and Non-Obvious AI’ on February 28, 2024, at 9.00 UTC-5 (60 minutes). This webinar will precede HIMSS24, scheduled to take place in Orlando on March 11-15.

During the webinar, Gil Bashe, an HIMSS Advisory Board Member, and João Bocas, recognized as the World’s #1 Digital Health Influencer—both healthcare visionaries and global thought leaders whose insights shape the future of patient care—will touch upon the most important issues. Alongside them, Andrej Vitushka, MD, PhD, Digital Health Adviser at Andersen, who represents the customer’s voice in healthcare software projects, will provide key insights into how AI, Generative AI, and related technologies may progress and shape the delivery of healthcare today and in the future.

The webinar will be valuable for anyone interested in the intersection of healthcare and technology and willing to implement the latest innovations in their digital products.

In his speech covering the ‘technology vs. humanity’ dilemma, Gil Bashe, a champion for innovation and a leader of four top agencies, recognized by PharmaVOICE as ‘one of the 100 most inspiring people in healthcare,’ and featured in Fast Company’s ’50 People to Watch in the New World of Work,’ will address the question that troubles many of us: who will ultimately win the battle—humans or machines?

The topic of Gil Bashe’s speech reflects global concerns stemming from doubts about whether intelligent technology truly aligns with human values. These concerns are grounded in reality. The language used in smart systems often reflects inherent biases in machine learning, underscoring the necessity of thoughtful human oversight to prevent any form of discrimination. Additionally, while AI aims to augment clinicians’ abilities, the primary role in the doctor-patient relationship still belongs to humans.

Mr. Bashe will touch upon the necessity of developing AI that enhances rather than replaces doctors’ skills, such as empathy. Sustainability is another key concern, as training complex AI models consumes vast energy resources. Ultimately, the expert will argue that responsibly aligning AI with human priorities will pave the way for an optimistic future where both sides can mutually thrive.

João Bocas, a recognized thought leader, speaker, and adviser in digital health, wearable technology, and artificial intelligence, as well as the Founder of several successful healthcare technology companies, will explore the potential of AI in wearables in 2024 and beyond. The speaker will discuss key barriers to wearable adoption, the use of data-driven AI technologies to unlock the potential of wearables, the future impact of wearables on healthcare, and ethical AI concerns regarding wearables.

This topic is of immense importance for present-day healthcare. Wearable medical devices transform preventative healthcare through continuous, passive monitoring and early detection of health changes. For example, stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability, affecting 795,000 people annually in the United States. Globally, a stroke occurs every 40 seconds, claiming a life every 4 minutes. In many cases, it is caused by untreated heart arrhythmias which could be identified early through heart rate and rhythm monitoring via wearables. This would allow for preventative treatment.

Wearables may also enable early diagnosis and better management of other conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, and sleep disorders by tracking vital signs, symptoms, medication adherence, activity levels, and sleep quality. However, barriers remain including limitations of current technology, privacy concerns over data sharing, and reimbursement questions around who will pay for these devices.

Mr. Bocas will provide expert insights into these and other aspects of wearable technology.

Andrej Vitushka, MD, PhD will uncover the reasons why virtual doctors and the potential harm they might inflict on patients seem implausible today. He will also address AI issues related to global dominance and deglobalization trends and suggest what is needed to make artificial intelligence in healthcare a reality.

Decades ago, science fiction portrayed AI as an unstoppable force overriding human control, like in the Terminator films. But Dr. Vitushka argues we have not reached this precipice. Despite rapid advances, AI still requires extensive human oversight in healthcare and beyond. The expert believes today’s geopolitical and economic instability may slow the progress of this technology as defense takes priority.

Dr. Vitushka contends AI is unlikely to replace doctors soon. Robust medical software remains challenging to develop. Patients strongly prefer human clinicians, which is evident from declining telehealth use. Though staff shortages persist, AI could enable doctors to focus on uniquely human skills. In consumer robotics, gradual adoption suggests no imminent AI domination. Dr. Vitushka sees no clear path for technology to autonomously design successors without human direction. AI risks exist, like in communications, requiring safeguards. But the expert considers a Terminator-style uprising implausible given current realities.

Rather than an unstoppable force, Dr. Vitushka argues wise governance can steer AI’s benefits in healthcare without erasing the human touch.

After the discussion, the audience will have a short Q&A session. Every participant who secures their seat before February 14th will receive an additional guide from experts titled ‘Experts’ Forecast on Digital Healthcare for 2024,’ providing valuable strategies on how to implement technologies. After successful participation, all attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.

The webinar has already attracted the attention of leading industry experts, medical professionals, students, and trainees, as well as business analysts, data scientists, project managers, and other IT professionals. With this diverse group registered, the webinar is sure to lead to insightful discussions from a range of perspectives across the healthcare industry.

What’s more, LinkedIn influencers have also paid attention to this upcoming event. Philippe Gerwill, Rafael J. Grossmann, Piyush Mathur, Avneesh Khare, and others have already spread the word about it. Their interest is evidence of the relevance of the webinar for today’s healthcare.
