Albertsons grocery chain announces Apple Watch rewards program

Grocery chain Albertsons Companies’ digital health and wellness platform Sincerely Health announced a program that will allow consumers to share data from their Apple Watches or iPhones to earn rewards points.

Sincerely Health provides users access to health-related resources and guidance for establishing mental and general well-being goals. The platform also offers an online pharmacy where customers can schedule vaccine appointments and manage pharmacy prescriptions.

Through the integration, consumers with an Apple Watch Series 3 or later can share their activity data with their Sincerely Health account and earn up to 75 points for closing their Move, Exercise and Stand activity rings. iPhone users who close their Move ring can earn up to 25 points daily.

Additionally, consumers can earn grocery coupons and discounts by setting up one or more goals related to sleep, nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle. Users can manage their data and determine what information to share.

“By integrating Apple Watch with the Sincerely Health platform, we are making it easy for customers to get value and also receive incentives for achieving their fitness goals,” Omer Gajial, chief digital officer and EVP health at Albertsons Companies, said in a statement.

THE LARGER TREND

Consumers have relayed concerns about privacy and wearable data. A study published in the Lancet Digital Health in February showed that deidentifying data might not be enough to protect users’ privacy.

Still, many companies are relying on wearables to help track and manage users’ health.

Another company incentivizing users to track their data via wearables to receive rewards is UnitedHealthcare, which launched UnitedHealthcare Rewards in February. Through the program, eligible members will be paid up to $1,000 per year to complete select tasks tracked by a wearable.

Glen Tullman will offer more detail in the HIMSS23 session “Views from the Top: Existential Crisis or Inflection Point Opportunity? An Industry Maverick’s Perspective.” It is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, at 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. CT at the South Building, Level 1, room S100 B.
